Challenge: Bacterial infections in burn and scald wounds severely endanger patients. Effective bacterial elimination and wound exudate management are crucial to preventing infections and reducing mortality.

Approach: Professor Feng Yan and Associate Professor Jiangna Guo from Soochow University utilized electrospinning to fabricate a nitric oxide (NO)-releasing antibacterial poly(ionic liquid)/carbon nitride (C₃N₄)-based Janus fiber membrane (PIL-C₃N₄).

Innovation 1: The Janus structure of PIL-C₃N₄ facilitates unidirectional exudate transport and wound microenvironment regulation. Under light exposure, PIL-C₃N₄ exhibits controlled NO release, effectively eliminating bacteria through the synergistic therapeutic effects of NO and PIL.

Innovation 2: In vivo studies demonstrate that PIL-C₃N₄ significantly reduces bacterial viability, alleviates inflammation, and promotes collagen deposition, thereby accelerating burn wound healing.
